Need Unique Idea

I have a virtual co-worker/friend who lives across country and is getting married in September. I am not invited to the wedding - I know this because we spoke at length about it and am TOTALLY fine with it. No children are invited and I am not flying solo to the midwest - so, really - it works out FINE!

Here's my dilemma.... I want to send a wedding gift anyway. I have worked with this woman through freelance opportunities for 10 years. She has given me a LOT of work and for that I am VERY grateful. She is an artsy type with a penchant towards earthy, granola type things. She saves the whales (literally). She donates towards worldly causes. She is 50ish and marrying (second marriage) a much younger man. She is well established and needs for nothing.

See my problem? I have no idea WHAT to send as a gift. the typical punch bowl or vase will not do. So, my dearest dearies.... What do you suggest?? Any and all suggestions welcome!

Make a donation in her name to a charity that she supports.

my cousins bought me some "arctic animals " one year. they made a donation to some group that supports animals in the north and then wrote me a card about it, it was sweet.

I second the donate money in her name idea.

Does she go to a church? You could donate funds to go to something she is involved with like the music fund or something. That way she would be able to see your donation at work...

Or

My sister makes beautiful pottery bowls - you could get her one of those - www.nicolewilker.com

or

a welsh love spoon to commemorate the day would be kinda neat. I found a bunch on the internet...

Good luck!
let me know what you decide to do.
I'm curious!

I agree with the donation in her name to her favorite charity.

Dude, come to the Midwest. We could pull a Wedding Crashers. I get to be Vince Vaughn. Or we could just get really drunk for no particular reason.

Ladies - I think the idea is great - SO great that I have done just that for other occasions - her birthday, Christmas etc. SO, I don't want to do the same thing for this - seems somehow less special. Any other ideas...

LBC - will be checking on your other suggestions... THX

LBC - is that website right? It takes me to a page with options for a blog or pictures. I am blonde - so forgive me if I overlooking where exactly the pottery is... THX

Sounds to me like she is someone who is always thinking of others. Does she do much for herself?

Maybe you could send her a gift certificate for her and the soon to be husband to get a couples massage or send something indulgent that she would never do for herself.

I love the Spice Crates they sell at Penzeys.com. They have anywhere from $30 to $250 verions. There is even a "Spicy Wedding" version. I have a friend who uses this as her standard bridal shower gift and it is always a hit.

Some type of pottery made just for them is a good idea. Maybe a set of big matching coffee mugs or something. I read this blog and he makes some beautiful stuff and does custom orders. http://grpottersblog.blogspot.com/

Good luck finding something. And make sure to let us know what you pick.

Hire me and I'll write her a book, just like I did for the wedding I went to!!!

I LOVE Michele's spices idea...or maybe I could help you make her a eco-friendly quilt?

What about one of those gift vouchers for on-line custom coffee table book?? Most of the online photo pocessing places do it. That way her and her betrothed can have a custom book made from their wedding or some of their whale saving exploits. They have ENVIRO FRIENDLY OPTIONS. Good luck. Love your blog!
